• Location.
• No pen, no paper, no shampoo, no service.

“Sorry, but this is not a 4 star hotel. I could hear every word in both adjoining rooms, the front desk did not have a band-aid and there was no pen, paper, or shampoo in the room!”

• This hotel is in an extremely convenient location.
• No hot water the night that we stayed!

“The hotel itself is sub standard for a Grand Hyatt. This hotel is of the quality that I would expect of a normal Hyatt. The rooms are getting old, the carpet is getting old, and you can kind of smell the age. You can see the age in the room walls and door paint. The furniture and fixtures are better than the room itself. Overall, the hotel is nice, but not what I expected of a 4-star hotel or a Grand Hyatt.”

“I have stayed at the Hyatt before and found it to be relatively comfortable and quiet. The location of the hotel is very convenient. However, this time, the room had thin walls and was separated from the neighboring room by a door. Our neighbors were very loud (on a week night up until about 2 am). After contacting the front desk, they said security would take care of the noise problem, but it continued. I contacted them again when the noise was persistent, even asked to be moved to a new room, but they said the hotel was full. I would not like a repeat of this experience.”

• The beds and linens were very comfortable. The staff was responsive and exceeded our expectations.
• The bathrooms were small.

• Trash piled in hallways.

“I was very concerned about this hotel because of all the negative reviews I read; however, I was very pleased with this hotel. The staff was very friendly and helpful, the bed was very comfortable, and the location was perfect. The food was a little on the expensive side, and there was some torn wallpaper in our room along with floors in the bathroom that were not cleaned on a daily basis, but these were minor inconveniences. Overall, I was very happy with the hotel.”

• Proximity to downtown, proximity to subway, excellent room, great attendants.
• There was a strong mildew-like smell in the bathroom.

“Would definitely stay at this motel again. Only issue was strong mildew smell in the room's bathroom, but the room was stylish (but small). Considering NYC, it was a very good room.”

“Excellent hotel overall especially the location, you can get to Grand Central without leaving the building. Beautiful lobby, room is very nice. Only two negatives, wireless access is not free and walls were paper thin. That made the room very noisy.”

“This hotel is a beautiful hotel, centrally located to many attractions. Right next door to Grand Central Station. We liked staying here, the only two downsides were that although we asked for a non-smoking room and we had one in a non-smoking floor, our room reeked of cigarette smoke. Our clothes had to be washed twice upon arriving at home to get the smell out. The other bad thing is that our restroom was not completely clean upon arrival. Not filthy but could have been cleaned up a little more. Overall a good, safe, comfortable hotel.”

“I really enjoyed this hotel. The room were nice and the doorman was extremely pleasant. The location is idea next to grand central station. The only problem I had is the African American security staff (men) was not that friendly at least towards me. They would speak and greet the white patrons but would not do the same to me.”

• Housekeeping was not very efficient. My tub never got unstopped although I called to ask. The A/C was barely working.

“A very large hotel, with somewhat tacky lobby decor. Concierge desk was very good while housekeeping was average. Location was good (next to Grand Central Station). Never ate at the hotel because there were lots of restaurants nearby.”

• We loved the self serve kiosk for check in and check out. It was very efficient.
• The bathroom in the hotel room could stand to be upgraded.

“This is a large, bustling hotel with a friendly, knowledgeable staff. We used both the concierge and the doormen for suggestions and information and they were great. The room was a bit small but it was clean and had nice linens and an oversized closet. The location was excellent, very close to restaurants and retail. We would definitely stay at the hotel again.”

• Concierge desk was very helpful, also the reservation desk for museum tickets and bed comfortable!
• We ended up on a smoking floor & we don't smoke! Brought in air purifier which helped.

“Lovely hotel! Enjoyed ourselves and the convenience of being next to Grand Central Station. Lobby is comfortable for waiting for a group to get together.”

“The Grand Hyatt is grand. Be in New York and have a room of the size we had is unheard of. A wonderful view of Lexington Avenue, as well. I can't wait to go back.”

“I found the hotel excellent in, almost, every way. My internet went out a few times. They did remove the charge for the internet from my bill but the inconvenience could not be measured in a few dollars. The hotel is not far from Time Square, fifth Avenue and other points of interest. I would stay here again.”

“My wife and I travel often and this was the worst room experience I have ever had. My wife got bed bug bites and we found a vibrator under the bed. We could not wait to leave the room. I was going to complain the last night but we got back very late to the hotel and were leaving in the morning. I will never stay at the Hyatt in NY again. I've stayed in Chicago and San Francisco and the Hyatt's were both decent.”

• Great location at Grand Central. It made traveling around the city very convenient.
• Bathroom was extremely small, no counter space.

“Overall, very nice hotel. The bathrooms are really small, with no counter space, but other than that it was fine. We did get a room with the larger closet which helped out, and the staff arranged a roll away bed for no charge throughout our stay. I would recommend this hotel, however, we really only used it for the bed and bathroom so on my next trip to New York, I could probably do with a 3-star and save a little money.”

• The hotel was beautiful and the staff was very friendly.
• Everything was perfect!

“The hotel was beautiful. Especially the lobby. The hotel is also is a great location is next to Broadway, shopping centers and main attractions. The staff was so friendly and pleasant! I told the lady that today was my 21st birth day and she surprised me by sending room service up to my room with a plate of fruit and drinks for all my friends. No charge at all! I would recommend this hotel to everybody because everyone makes you feel comfortable and the hotel is very clean and pleasant!”

“The hotel was very busy, full of MLB all star media and players. Staff was very helpful, as I had many request. They even upgraded my room to a bigger bed. Very nice experience.”

• Room was old, no vent in bathroom, carpet worn.

“This hotel is in a great location, at Grand Central Station, and it's easy to walk to the west side or east side of the city. The hotel lobby is massive and impressive. The rooms are old and need updating, but the bedding and linen were clean. The carpet is worn and the bathroom was old, with no air vent. Overall, we were satisfied and would stay at the same hotel for a similar price.”

• Central location, close to transportation.
• Poor service. Rooms need to be updated/upgraded with amenities found at a modern deluxe hotel (especially in a major city).

“The Hyatt is an ideally located, mid-town hotel with easy access to all points in the city; great location for business as well as leisure travelers. The hotel rooms are overdue for an upgrade to reflect deluxe hotels of today; flat panel TVs, coffee makers, minibars are surprisingly absent. Bathrooms are small; the sinks provide no area for toiletries. The staff is competent, but do not deliver the personal attention that one expects at a deluxe hotel.”

• It has a great location. The service is incredible, rooms are quiet and the lobby is spectacular.
• Elevators are small and take too long to come.

“From the moment we walked into the lobby of the hotel we were impressed. The staff was very helpful and friendly. They were the official hotel for the all Star Game, so it did get a bit crowded on the last day and night before we left. The location of this hotel is excellent - next to Grant Central Station. The security in the hotel is also great, but that could have been because the families and players for the all star game were staying there. The room we had was so quiet. The only thing you could hear is that the doors are set to slam shut if you happen to let them go without hanging on to the handle. I loved that the windows actually open. The hotel is clean, secure, beautiful and right in the heart of the City.”

• The king size room was large and quiet; Great Central Station - subway access.
• Busy lobby, loaded with energy and bustle; but that was also a positive.

“Grand Central is so relaxed late night and weekends. Easy access to lower Manhattan, 5 minutes to Theatre District. Not a lot to walk to for dining; eat in Grand Central which has many options except late night, when there was an very good food cart with grilled meats outside the hotel. $12 drinks is insane at the bar but still a cool ambience. Our King Size corner room was really a suite; plush comfortable bed. Small bathroom, but nicely equipped. Once with kids (adjoining rooms which was super efficient), this time without; we'll surely go back.”

“This hotel is in an excellent safe, central Manhattan location with easy access to public transportation. A number of stores. Restaurants and tourist sites are in easy walking distance.”

• The lobby is fantastic and the workout facility was nice.
• There were hairs from other people in several places in the room. Internet access was $11.

“Hyatt hotels tend to have spectacular lobbies and that's about all. We found three long hairs of unknown origin in several locations in our room. Suggesting hotel cleaning crew didn't quite finish before they went on break. No free Internet. No free pool. The workout centre was very nice and the staff was friendly (for NYC).”

• The staff was unexpectedly friendly. We arrived in the late am and our room was ready.
• There was occasional bedlam in the lobby area.

“The Grand Hyatt NYC is in a great location, adjacent to Grand Central Station. The rooms are more than adequate and the staff is very friendly, courteous and professional. The room service and restaurant menus are quite pricey but there are many dining alternatives in the neighborhood. This is a very good hotel for both business and leisure travel with guests from around the world.”

• It was available when I needed a last minute room.
• The front desk clerk was patronizing when I told him I was in the travel business. Then he gave me the worst room location I have had in years.

• The location is fantastic.
• Room very basic and old. Furniture rundown. Stains and tear on the bedcover, armchair, tables. Room did not have sufficient lighting. Decent size.

“Location is fantastic but rooms are not up to any expectation. Rooms were of a good size for NYC, but too old, with very insufficient lighting, all furniture is so worn out with many tears and stains.”

• The electric sockets in the room did not work and the one lamp that had an outlet had to be shaken in all directions to make it work.

“The hotel was nice and clean and was in a great location. Very close to the Subway and within walking distance to many places. Enjoyed the complimentary coffee tickets for Starbucks which was located in the lobby. The room was clean and had lots of room to move around- 3 adults stayed in the room and we were all comfortable without feeling crowded. The only drawback, the electric outlets did not work very well. We had to jiggle the cords to get them to work. Other than that, it was great! Will definitely consider staying here again.”
