“I have stayed in almost all of four star hotels in New York. The lobby is wonderful, but the room was extremely dated with old, chipped furniture, a dirty looking rug and crud around the baseboards. Further, the room smelled like it had been recently painted, yet there was no obvious improvement. The wallpaper in the room was also peeling in some places. The bathroom was serviceable and the lighting in the room was dank and dark. The staff was extremely kind, but I can't say that I would ever stay there again because of the quality of the room as compared to other 4 star hotels in NYC.” Jul 21, 2008 by
Margaret from Chicago, IL
“It was fine, nothing special. Small rooms as is typical of NY old hotels.” Jul 20, 2008 by
M from Heber City, UT
“This hotel is the next block from the Waldorf. Location is fabulous. I like the architecture, the lobby. It feels homey and that's something in NY.” Jul 19, 2008 by
Lynn L. from Henderson, NV
“We did not have a priority of having a room with double beds and that all the rooms with double beds were booked for the entire week. However, later during the day, another staff was able to move us to another room with double beds.” Jul 17, 2008 by
Maj from Washington, DC
“For a four star hotel I expected slightly more updated decor in the rooms.” Jul 17, 2008 by
Ldr from Baltimore, MD
“I would definitely go back to this hotel again. It was the All Star Game Weekend in NY and the Intercontinental was full of activities and freebies. Hall of Famers were staying there so it must be a great hotel! This hotel is central to a huge variety of NY attractions and areas, and it is easy to catch a cab or take the subway, which is practically outside of the door.” Jul 16, 2008 by
Michael from Winnetka, IL
“Good business hotel bar was friendly. The bed was falling apart almost made me request a new room which I never do.” Jul 16, 2008 by
Patty from Brookline, MA
“The hotel was very accommodating to my requests even at very late hours. Check in and out we fairly quick and done with great customer service. I was in town during the MLB All Star weekend and they seemed to handle the large influx of guests very well.” Jul 16, 2008 by
Elisa from Southwick, MA
“Great location, overall clean and nice. Did not think it was a 4 star.” Jul 16, 2008 by
Nia from Buda, TX
“Overall the hotel was great in location and class but I felt like some details like wallpaper and linens were overlooked and the bathroom could have used more attention.” Jul 15, 2008 by
Debra from Twin Falls, ID
“Inter Continental, the Barclay was very nice, in a good area for both pleasure and business. Staff was helpful. Our room was attractive and comfortable. Bathroom needed more space for personal items.” Jul 15, 2008 by
Brigid from Kent, OH
“Very nice. A great value. Could use more deluxe products, can always use more freebies :).” Jul 15, 2008 by
Rachel from Toronto, ON CA
“Very friendly staff (concierge and personal trainer in the gym) - excellent location - near tunnel to Grand Central - clean - linens, bathroom, overall- liked having Ipod station in room - very handy.” Jul 14, 2008 by
Gilda from Marblehead, MA
“Do not recommend this hotel to anyone. The service was unbelievably bad. We are still awaiting the promised call from management for the problems we encountered.” Jul 12, 2008 by
John from Saint Coud, MN
“Clean and comfortable.” Jul 11, 2008 by
Tess from Vallejo, CA
“Service was good. But the room smells cigarette.” Jul 10, 2008 by
Jay from Brookfield, MA
“Overall nice hotel. Clean and friendly, but I sure hope the rest of the rooms are a lot roomier and of better quality than the one we were in.” Jul 10, 2008 by
Alyssa from Chestnut Hill, MA
“We arrived at the hotel at 10:30. We knew check in was at 3 but figured they'd have a room or two clean to check into. No problem, we'd go eat breakfast and come back an hour later. Still no room. Two hours later I came back and still no room. So I sat in the lobby and watched party after party go to the desk and get room keys. I went up and asked again and was told still no room. I pointed out that these people were just coming in with their luggage and I'd first tried at 10:30 am. The desk person looked quizzical, had no explanation and told me to come back later. Another couple tried and were told there was no room and sat next to me. 15 minutes later they got up and asked again and were given a key. I was told yet again no rooms available. I find this unacceptable. I believe I was being punished. Got into the room and my remote control did not work. I called down to instant service and was told someone would be up immediately. An hour later and still no appearance of anyone. I left to go to dinner, came back and it was still not working. The bathtub drain did not work properly so we were left standing in a large tub of water at the end of our showers. Service is something that could be greatly improved in this hotel. I would most likely not stay here again.” Jul 9, 2008 by
Terry from Saint Louis, MO
“I fell out of the bed because the glass tabletop slipped in room on side of bed near the bathroom. I didn't get hurt, but I could have. The glass needs to be anchored to the table.” Jul 8, 2008 by
Peter from Southampton, NY
“Outstanding, excellent would highly recommend.” Jul 8, 2008 by
Judy from Mount Pleasant, SC
“Very nice, clean, quiet & comfortable. Very nice lobby & bar. Good location & near Metro stop. Wish they had visible security, early check-in & hotel entrances in rear. Bathroom could have used more counter space. It would have been nice to have complimentary coffee in the lobby until at least 9:00 & water fountains.” Jul 8, 2008 by
Roy from Richlands, VA
“Ideal location, close to attractions and Grand Central. Clean facility, do not feel like crowded.” Jul 3, 2008 by
Ed from Howell, NJ
“I took my 15 year old daughter to see the city and enjoy NYC for a few days. The hotel was perfect for this visit. Upscale look and feel with well trained staff. Location was good for Times Square, Central Park and 5th Avenue shopping.” Jul 3, 2008 by
Rob from Lakewood, NJ
“Good location. Big hotel. Rooms need updating. Front desk staff just a touch full of themselves.” Jun 29, 2008 by
Al from Los Angeles, CA
“This is an upscale hotel but not luxurious. Great location, clean & comfortable.” Jun 28, 2008 by
Mitch from Fayetteville, AR
“Very pleasant experience. Convenient to subway, Broadway and St. Bart's.” Jun 28, 2008 by
M from Vallejo, CA
“The staff were okay. They could have been more enthusiastic or friendlier. They did not go out of the way to help you. They just did enough to respond your question or request. Other hotels usually provide you with more information or possible options you may not have considered especially when new (which is what should be assumed) and visiting the area (and staff is usually cheerier and excited that you are in their neck of the woods).” Jun 16, 2008 by
Pete from Middletown, NJ
“The hotel was fine for the price I paid.” Jun 16, 2008 by
Markus from Bonn DE
“A nice 4 star hotel in NYC.” Jun 5, 2008 by
Stacy from Shreveport, LA
“Great value for the price. Very attentive staff and twice daily housekeeping. Very clean and comfortable. The restaurant was excellent but pricey. Some of our best food during our stay was at this hotel. Bathroom was very small, but room made up for it. We were upgraded to a suite due to being Ambassador Club members. The location was perfect being within walking distance to most all of the attractions in New York. The only downfall was traffic noise (horns, sirens, etc.) outside our window, but we figured that this was probably typical for New York. The noise never hindered our sleep late at night, though. I would definitely stay at this hotel again. Overall, location, attractiveness and twice daily housekeeping were biggest assets that would keep me coming back.” Jun 5, 2008 by
Daris. from Haverhill, MA
“The service is top notch, as well as the food. One of the most comfortable beds I have ever had in a hotel. Also, the hotels fitness room was being renovated at the time of my visit.” Jun 4, 2008 by
Hank from Trumbull, CT
“My wife and I had a great experience at the Barclay. The location can't be beat. The front desk was very friendly both checking in and out. The bellman was very helpful letting us store our bag for the day we checked out. The hotel is only 3 blocks from Grand Central so we picked up our bag on the way to the train. The room was very nice, the bathroom was very clean. All in all it is a hotel that I would love to stay in again.” Jun 4, 2008 by
Charlie from North Brunswick, NJ
“Awful bedding and room furnishings. Dirty. The bed is not comfortable. I have slept on better beds at 2-star hotels. Hotel does not deserve to be labeled anywhere close to a 4-star. Stay away and find a better 4-star hotel.” Jun 2, 2008 by
Corrin from Encinitas, CA
“It met our exceeded our expectations in all aspects except the size of the room. It was very cramped!” Jun 1, 2008 by
Ravi from Palatine, IL
“I probably will never ever stay in this hotel. It smells. (I switched the room and there as well it smells the same). Not friendly. Probably is a 3 star hotel, and not 4 star.” May 30, 2008 by
Beth from Potomac, MD
“Our room was muggy and the air was set at 65; obviously, the thermostat was not a true read. I woke up from the heat at 2 a.m., complained to the front desk and got the "ma'am" treatment from the night manager, who claimed he could not do anything but send up an engineer which I declined as the others in my room were sleeping. I asked for something to be done on my bill as I was up in the night because of the mugginess, and he said that he could not because the computer was down and he could not see what I had requested.” May 30, 2008 by
Hope K. from Los Angeles, CA
“The lobby is nice and the beds in the rooms are comfortable. I didn't get my complimentary New York Times. Overall, not a bad stay.” May 30, 2008 by
Marie from Philadelphia, PA
“Great price, helpful staff with early check-in. Lovely lobby, somewhat small room.” May 29, 2008 by
Al from Kennett Square, PA
“Drinks at the bar are the best I have ever had in NYC. Rooms are mini more like closets and they need to update the TV's Otherwise good location and the Park and 5th Ave stores well within reach.” May 27, 2008 by
Art from Seattle, WA
“When the hot water went out for showers, the hotel could have chosen to offer breakfast (at their own restaurant) or at least a "we're sorry for the inconvenience", they offered neither. Not a four or five star response!” May 26, 2008 by
Kate from Baton Rouge, LA
“Our stay was very nice. The hotel is lovely and the staff was nice.” May 26, 2008 by
Ann from Bethesda, MD
“The location of this hotel is fantastic.” May 26, 2008 by
Sue from Punta Gorda, FL
“The hotel is located conveniently, especially when coming in from the airport. The doormen are very hard working and helpful; the lobby is a lovely, friendly place with upscale appeal. Check-in is quick and easy and very pleasant. The elevators are quick, hallways and doorways attractive. The rooms are delightfully decorated and comfortably charming with comfortable beds and chair and ottoman plus desk with chair. There is a mini-bar, safe and nice walk-in closet. The bathroom is small but very nice. Overall it lived up to my expectations. I always stay at 4 star hotels and the Barclay definitely has earned it stars.” May 22, 2008 by
David from Somerville, MA
“Comfortable and convenient for an overnight stay.” May 22, 2008 by
Lucy from Houston, TX
“This hotel is in a great location, within walking distance from many sites. The beautiful lobby is just an indication of the rooms. The rooms are clean, comfortable and spacious - fell like luxury. The bathroom has soft towels, generous toiletries, and a sparkling clean tub. We ate at the restaurant after hours and found the service to be lacking.” May 22, 2008 by
Sally from Milan, MN
“I was disappointed in the room. It was clean but dingy. Location was good and staff was friendly, though.” May 20, 2008 by
James from San Francisco, CA
“The location is the best thing about this hotel. My non-smoking room smelled like stale cigarette smoke. Also, I don't understand why hotels of this caliber still charge a fee for internet access, which much lower-priced hotels provide for free. Such policies always make the hotel seem unnecessarily cheap. I would not stay at this hotel again.” May 19, 2008 by
Joanne from Westmount, QC CA
“Nice lobby, excellent closet space.” May 15, 2008 by
Pat from Medford, MA
“It looks really nice when you enter. There was a long wait to get checked in. No assistance getting to the room. The gym was closed for repairs. Also after waking the whole floor to locate the ice machine in the location they say it is. Found I had to go to another floor then was lost in the part of the building for corporate meetings. Then rented a movie that I couldn't watch jumped all around the screen called the staff. A man came to check it said TV was not working the cable was down he couldn't fix it. Went to take a shower only 2 towels in bathroom the mirror got all steamed up no heater or fan. The hair dryer wouldn't work called for another. Oh, I forgot to say the bedroom was freezing no control of the temp. Would not stay there again. At least at a Holiday Inn it's consistent fair to good food, nice staff working TV. Fair not over priced like this place. For the price it was not worth it.” May 15, 2008 by
Ken from Charlotte, NC
“Checked in quickly, room on 4th floor. View faced 48th St, could see into windows of office building across the street. Room was set back from the street. Very quiet, which was much appreciated. Room was small, especially the bathroom, but perfectly adequate. Temperature was fine and thermostat worked well. The only issue we encountered was that there wasn't sufficient hot water for both of us the first morning. We were a bit surprised that this happened at this level of hotel. We complained at the desk, and they apologized profusely and offered us both complimentary breakfast. I really appreciated that, they didn't make excuses, just immediately stepped up, apologized, and told us they would contact engineering. We had no problems the second day. Breakfast was nice, either a buffet or off the menu. We did the buffet. I can't believe that the regular price is $30 for breakfast. It was a very nice buffet, but not that nice! It was a great stay, location was nice walk to 5th Ave and to Theatre district. I would definitely stay there again.” Hotel Representatives:
