  • Everything was from Wi-Fi to the gym is an extra expensive charge.

“It is a beautiful hotel. Things that are complementary at 2 star hotels are a 12.00 dollar charge here, including internet.”

“Loved the location and room size and facilities, Oscar's for Sunday breakfast was appalling, discourteous staff, coffee cold and horrible and food not properly cooked. No service! Would stay in hotel again but won't eat there ever.”

  • The lobby is gorgeous as are some of the other more public spaces, bellman nice.
  • A 15 minute wait to register, elevator broke, waiter surly, staff in a hurry, room bathroom marginal, not at all what Id expect or am used to.

“The Waldorf did not meet my quality expectations from either a facility or service perspective. The room itself was standard hotel fare, but the bathroom had a hole in the wall where the switch for a fan should be, meaning there was no fan. The sink and walls showed their age and repair as did the public restroom in the lobby. It is the service issues however that are the most disappointing. There were long wait times to register, to get our car at the end of the stay. Most questions we asked were responded to in a very curt, 'you're bothering me I'm busy', or 'how could you be so stupid' tone. I realize its New York, but please. I expected so much more. I have stayed there in the past and have stayed at 5 star hotels across the world. This was very disappointing. I would not choose to stay there again”

  • Room was very small, shower did not work properly, and breakfast was overpriced and underwhelming.

“I had looked forward to staying at the Waldorf Astoria, but found my stay a little disappointing. The room was tiny and the shower did not work properly. We were placed in a room next to the elevator, so we heard it running all night. We ate breakfast at Peacock Alley and it was very unimpressive. For a big bill, we received rubbery eggs and poor wait service. The host and hostess, however, were more attentive and friendly.”

“We loved the welder Astoria, staying there 4 days in February. Check-in was instant. Our two children were offered crayons and coloring books, and without asking, we were given a significant room upgrade. the rooms were clean, spacious, old fashioned in a very endearing way, with plenty of towels, big beds, postcards, chairs etc breakfast was excellent, though busy, and the pancakes we had, large, with generous and extra maple syrup. The buffet was good too. All staff was very helpful and friendly. The hotel itself enjoys an excellent location, and had a real art deco feel about it. The main areas are superbly historic, and a joy to walk through. We were sad to leave this historic hotel. And again, check out was fast and easy. Would we stay there again? Definitely.”

  • The brunch looked beautiful and delicious in the grand lobby. The staff was very attentive and accommodating.
  • The rooms were very dated and could have had more modern features, i.e. HD TV¿s, softer beds, etc.

“It was like stepping back into time. We were only a stone's throw from all the places that we wanted to visit. I only wish we had not made other arrangements for brunch because it looked fabulous! You couldn't possibly leave there hungry. Gorgeous flowers greeted us in the entryway and every last detail in the lobby was perfect down to the elevator doors. Only one disappointment, I know that the rooms go with the decor of the entire building, but it seemed like the last time it was renovated was in 1965. Everything was very well maintained, however, for a hotel with world class recognition I had higher expectations. Maybe I¿m just spoiled¿”

It took away from the overall glamour of the room. It would also have been nice to have a more reasonably priced breakfast at Oscar's - $27.00 is a bit high even for NY. • It was clean, and staff was friendly.
  • It was overrated, over priced, and didn't get any sleep!

“I stayed at the Waldorf Astoria on a Saturday night. My first impression was it was nice, lots of nice looking people with sweaters hanging around there necks. I got to the room and was disappointed by the appearance, it was nice, but I had stayed at the Hilton New York the night before and wasn't as nice as that room. It was clean, and the beds were comfortable. We took showers before we went out on the town and the shower would not drain and the shower wouldn't stay on unless the water was so hot it burnt your skin. Then we went out and came in late, the staff was great but I felt like they were all waiting for a tip. We wanted to sleep in, not a chance. The noise outside our room, and coming from other rooms was unbelievable. We had housekeeping open our door 4 times without knocking and yelling housekeeping!! The phone rang twice, and the one by the bed didn't work so I had to get up to answer it and no one was there, it had to be the hotel staff because we didn't know anyone else staying in this hotel. I felt as if they were trying to kick us out of our room. We had till 12 noon to be checked out and I didn't plan on checking out any earlier. Oh and the room service. What a joke that was. A very basic breakfast was 72 dollars and it came up cold, and I had to call to have them take it back, because it wasn't worth 72 dollars. Never ever will I stay there again.”

“We went for a "girl's only" weekend last week. It had been our first time in NYC & we were all quite impressed. There is a lot of walking around but it's such a great change from our daily lives. This hotel that we stayed at was quite impressive as well. We weren't expecting much out of our 1 bedroom, king size bed but wow, it was comfortable. We did wish for there to be a fridge & coffee maker in the room however. And we didn't realize we were being charged $1.50 every time we picked up the telephone but other than that, things went pretty well. This is a huge hotel & was packed with people on our stay.”

“What's to say? It's the Waldorf; it's appointed like no other hotel I've ever stayed in. There's a baby grand piano in the reception area and an excellent pianist playing almost any time of day. There's another baby grand in the foyer with the same set up. The staff is the best and most polite you can find anywhere. The only drawback is, it being an older building, the ventilation in my room left a bit to be desired. My room was a bit stuffy at night, and I could not seem to get the A/C to kick on. Had I been planning more than single night stay, I would have inquired about it with the front desk.”

“Though the grand lobby is beautiful, I was a bit disappointed with this hotel after you leave the lobby level, comparably priced hotels in area offer more luxurious rooms furniture, size, and linens. The common areas of the floors and the bathrooms in the rooms are quite dated and could use some work. Unfortunately the reality did not quite meet the reputation and as a result. I would be unlikely to stay here again.”

  • The hotel lobby is gorgeous! We were treated like royalty!
  • The cleaning staff did not knock before unlocking the door to clean.

“We were upgraded to a room in the Waldorf Towers at no additional cost. The lobby was beautiful with a fresh floral arrangement as large as a small room! Every door was opened, taxis were hailed for you, everything was excellent. The drinks were pricey in the lounges, but it is one of the finest hotels I have ever seen. It is a very short walk to Fifth Avenue shopping, and short cab rides to other locations. The reception desk was extremely friendly. ”
