  • Very helpful desk staff and bell boy.
  • Airline crews from British Airways and American making noise throughout the night.

“The Hotel staff was very friendly and knowledgeable about Manchester. One in particular, Paris, was even able to recommend a nice restaurant called Gaucho, which was the best steak restaurant we had ever been to. All and all a nice place.”

  • Extremely comfortable beds. Quiet room. Spotlessly clean.
  • The seating in reception was a bit too funky - prefer something smarter.

“Very central location - just round the corner from St Peter's Square Metrolink stop. Recommend Crisp Grill & Restaurant across the road.”

  • A couple of maintenance issues but otherwise no complaints

“The hotel is situated on the edge of Chinatown in the city centre with many good restaurants within 2 minutes walk. The rooms are spacious and well maintained with good temperature control. The bathrooms are of an even higher standard with lots of room wi”

  • Room was good size, clean and King Size bed was very comfortable.
  • Information regarding parking, breakfast, meal times, etc very poor.Staff not very welcoming.

“Booked hotel after much deliberation. We thought that it seemed to be quite up market and contemporary in design etc.Decor is very modern and the rooms were spotlessly clean but lacked any character.
Upon checking in we were given the bare minimum of info”

“I thought the hotel was extremely pleasant, it had a very calming modern feel throughout and I would definately consider staying there again. As I had read such great reviews about this hotel, I was expecting more of a 'wow' factor that wasn't really there. However overall the hotel was of a very good 3/4* standard.”

  • Funky design and furnishing of the hotel. Excellent central location.
  • Very limited and uninviting lounge area.

“The design and finish throughout the hotel was to a very high standard.

However, there wasn't a warm welcome and the staff seemed inexperienced, undertrained and uncomfortable with personal service. Just one example - having ordered a bottle of sparkling water through room service, a vase like container of water was presented at the door and handed over - no tray, no glasses! However, having left my specs at the hotel on departure, the receptionist was quick to offer to post them on to me, which was appreciated.

Appeared to be a little stingy on some things eg. one bar of soap and no biscuits with the coffee in the room and for some reason we couldn't receive Radio 4 in the room although other channels were available.

This hotel has a lot of potential when the staff are trained to give relaxed but professional service.”

  • It was modern, good location, nice change compared to other hotels, clean & good bathroom
  • Room was too hot, no ashtray, not enough local info - dining, eating, sight-seeing

“After a few wrong turns we finally found the hotel & the nearest NCP carpark (the Piaza, 2nd street on the right after the hotel). The hotel was modern without being pretentious & check-in was quick. It was easy to get to other areas of Manchester even though we did wander aimlessly - never got lost though! We even found a good pub (Grand Central) where we could drink & listen to decent music - the bar staff were very friendly too. We did find the room too hot & no temperature control and the window would only open a wee bit so not much of a draught was able to get in, BUT I loved the bathroom/shower. We could have done with more information about Manchester in the room but as I said we mamanged to find our way around pretty easily. We were seeing a band at the MEN Arena & that was also within easy walking distance, approx 10-15 mins walking. We enjoyed our stay and the room was good but can't comment on anything else as we did not use the other facilities. I would definately recommend the Arora to anyone staying in Manchester”

  • Very friendly staff. Jeffrey helped me out with a practise music room in the early morning. I had to play an audition. So I am very grateful.
  • Does not apply

“Though booked by Mrs Sansom it was me, Detmar Leertouwer staying. It was an overall good experience. Thank you!!”

  • Everything. Large bath, refrigerator & safe in room.
  • Fire alarm going off do to another guest.

“Except for the fire alarm going off in the middle of the night, our stay was perfect. The staff, accommodation & food were all top marks. Our toddler found the room to be top notch as well.”

  • mostly spacious rooms mostly good working order clean new decor speakers in bathroom friendly staff
  • walk-in shower drain blocked in one room speaker in bathroom did not work in one room

“The staff are very friendly, efficient and helpful. I liked the decor and the fact it is all new. The standard of cleanliness was high. The breakfast was nice but as a business traveller I would have liked the option of a mini-breakfast as did not have time for a full breakfast and there was no small option e.g. just cereal. The size of the rooms varied - the first room I stayed in was brilliant and roomy but the last one (603) was a bit small and the drain in the walk-in shower was blocked meaning the bathroom was always flooded, also the speaker in the bathroom didn't seem to work. But I would definitely stay again and did recommend it to the rest of the party I was travelling with who changed their bookings at other hotels to stay at the Arora.”

  • Overall the hotel was very clean, comfortable and well worth the money spent.
  • None

“A clean, professionally run hotel with exceptionally comfortable beds and large rooms. I was impressed with the cleanliness and the room service food was very nice (although the portions were a little small - but aren't they always!).

The location is excellent and the hotel provided excellent value for money. I felt comfortable staying in this hotel and would recommend to a friend.

The hotel was not aware of my booking when I arrived, which was a little scary. This could have had more serious consequences if the hotel were busier, i.e. no available rooms. However, this was not the case and the hotel honoured the booking on production of my Active Reservations receipt and assigned me a suitable room.

This would make me think twice about booking with Active Reservations, which is unfortunate as everything else about the whole process has been excellent. However, the hotel receiving the booking is arguably the most important part of the booking process.

Perhaps, simply telephoning the hotel once a booking has been made would suffice. However, I did place my booking 48 hours in advance, so ample notice was given. I will always be checking with hotel over the phone when I book on-line in the future.”

  • Superb room, beautifully furnished with excellent facilities.

“This is a great hotel. This was my 2nd stay and wouldn't hesitate to book here again. The only criticism I have is that the car park that the hotel is in partnership with (50% discount) is a 5-minute walk away so on a rainy day you could well get very wet!”

“Spotlessly clean hotel/room. Friendly staff. Good service. Luxurious bed. Discount on overnight parking '8.00 instead of '16.00. Bar/restaurant a bit pricey. No draught beers served. Sandwiches only from room service after 10.30pm.”

“The hotel staff are friendly and not too trendy or standoffish which has been my experience in other Manchester Hotels.

The bar and restaurant in the basement are outstanding, and the service was excellent”

  • The absolute cleanliness and comfort of the room.
  • There was nothing that we did not like.

“I feel that we chose very well when we booked the Arora as we had no knowledge of any of the hotels in the area.
We were not very pleased at being awakened at 3.00am by some joker setting off the fire alarm but this was not the hotel's fault.

Just one small point - ask the barman downstairs to cheer up a bit!”

  • central, clean, value for money, can't be faulted

“on 1st appearance, hotel looked new, clean, modern.. staff very helpfull.. the staff seemed to regonize customers very quickly. The room was spotless, furnished to a very high standard, (our room was disable friendly). 2nd appearance... could fault the hotel or staff. We slept in on last day (sunday) due to wedding the nite before, we woke at 4pm and noticed the chamber maids had left note stating they'd hadn't been in due to do not disturd sign. If we called reception by 3.30pm the room would be cleaned.. we thought we would leave it for the last nite. At 4.30pm we went out for fresh air and when we returned after a hour, the room had been cleaned, towels changed, obviously the reception staff pay attention to whom their guest are. I've never come across this before.”
