  • I thought the gentleman at the front desk and the concierge was by the far the best.
  • Nothing.

“My daughter and I traveled to Chicago to visit a college. We arrived by taxi and from the moment we were greeted you felt like a queen. The gentlemen at the front desk was so helpful to my daughter and talked about college choices. It was fun to walk to the shops inside, I used the FedEx Kinkos right next door. The rooms were divine I loved the bedding and the big TV. The bathroom was very clean. I felt safe and very relaxed. We were late checking out and the line was long so the concierge took care of us at her desk and was so polite. I highly recommend this to anyone that wants a fun night out in Chicago with a restful and quiet stay.”

  • Location.
  • It lacked elegance and an outdoor area.

“Great location, not quite 4 stars, though.”

  • Beautiful & larger rooms than most big city hotels. Very clean.
  • Steep parking fees.

“Chicago is a beautiful city, but when you stay in a hotel like the Renaissance, it just makes everything that much nicer. Our room was everything we expected, and more. The staff was extremely courteous and the hotel is tastefully decorated. While we did not get a chance to eat at this hotel, the staff recommended nearby restaurants which were still open at late hours. We chose Smith & Wollensky's, which was excellent. We will definitely stay at this hotel again.”

  • The hotel lobby was very inviting, the room had a great view and was comfortable.
  • Parking our car at hotel $45.00/day.

“This was a great location and had easy access to the train & shopping.”

  • The room, particularly the bathroom was so spacious.
  • I wish the beautiful roof deck was open to all hotel guests nut just those dining.

“When we arrived at the hotel, I asked for a room with a specific view and out came the hotel floor plan and I had my view in no time flat! The lobby always smelled liked fresh fruit and flowers, which was wonderful. The pool and spa area are kept very warm so it is relaxing and soothing. My only disappointment was that the roof deck is not open for all hotel guests, like the nearby Marriott on the Magnificent Mile.”

Cleanliness:[10] • Staff:[9] • Location:[10]

  • Well lit and spacious room; convenient location; nice toiletries and comfortable beds.
  • Internet fee; no coffee maker; expensive room service.

“Situated on the Riverwalk the Renaissance (Marriot) hotel was easy walking distance to the Sears Tower and convenient to bus and light rail (to see museums and leave to O'Hare). The well-appointed corner room was spacious and bright, beds comfortable, and bathroom amenities superb. The steep fee for internet was prohibitive - $15/day! Considering most places offer it free, it was disappointing, but at least they offered a free workstation for printing our boarding passes. No coffee maker in room, but the Starbucks (serving warm breakfast sandwiches) in the lobby made that omission bearable.”

“You will pay for the convenience of this hotel's location and for high level of the accommodations and service, but they do supply the above in a most attractive setting.”

Cleanliness:[10] • Staff:[8] • Location:[10]

  • Ideally located.
  • The front desk was chaotic at check-in.

“The hotel is clean and attractive with a very good gym and pool. There is a convenient Starbucks/breakfast take-out spot in the lobby so you can grab a reasonably-priced breakfast. Best of all the hotel is perfectly located on the river. It's walking distance from all major attractions and two blocks from the airport train.”

Cleanliness:[10] • Staff:[9] • Location:[10]

  • The hotel had a wonderful pool and hot tub and allowed young children in both.
  • The hotel rooms were small but this is to be expected in such a stellar location.

“The Renaissance was very convenient to get everywhere in Chicago. There is a bus stop right out the back door and is an easy walk to Millennium Park. We were also traveling with two young children and the hotel restaurant caters to the young child crowd with children's menus and crayons.”

“Great location for theater goers, very pleasant rooms, and lovely dining room especially for breakfast. Very helpful staff and nice area to sit on first floor off the lobby. We enjoyed our stay very much!”

  • The beds were comfortable and the martinis were good.
  • Our room needed overhauling.

“My friend told me what an elegant hotel the Renaissance is. I was looking forward to staying there. Giving them a 3-star rating would be an overstatement. TV reception very poor; hot/cold water in shower sporadic; antiquated hair dryer; worn carpet; only two drawers for storing clothes; coffee pot hidden; not much counter space in bathroom. I wrote down two pages of things that did not meet a 4-star criteria.”

Cleanliness:[8] • Staff:[8] • Location:[8]

  • Lobby was very clean and attractive.
  • Bathroom had bad sewage gas smell; express check-out got overlooked by their staff.

“Rooms are typical size; towels are rough; pillows were horrible; our bathroom stunk every evening when we returned from our day. Hotel maintenance said they did not smell anything.”

Cleanliness:[10] • Staff:[10] • Location:[9]

  • Wonderfully courteous.
  • Parking fees.

“Within seconds, we were greeted at the front of the hotel with a welcome to Chicago and that type of courtesy remained throughout our stay. Around every corner, the staff was very accommodating and set on making our stay a pleasant one. Parking fees are outrageous; there is a public ramp three blocks away that will save you $15 nightly. Keep an eye on some of these type of charges. Otherwise, the hotel is wonderfully appointed, nicely located, and we would absolutely be interested in staying here again!”
