  • Great location, rooms were clean.
  • Bed was uncomfortable, hot water came and went, walls were thin.

“If you are on a budget and looking for a great location in Santa Fe, this place is perfect. Do not expect thick walls (I could hear everything next door), consistent hot water (went from hot to cold in the shower), a quiet air conditioner/heat unit (both were somewhat noisy). If you're on a budget and don't mind staying in a motel it is fine. It is not a place for a romantic get away.”

“My experience with Desert Inn was very pleasant. My family enjoyed breakfast on the premises, then a very short walk to the plaza. Overall, a very nice experience.”

  • It had antiques for sale at a reasonable price.

“Adequate for my stay. Not fancy, and reasonably priced.”

Cleanliness:[3] • Staff:[4] • Location:[9]

  • Nicely kept exterior & pool. Effort on planters and landscaping.
  • 1-star room very stained carpet & bedspread, ancient fixtures, peeling wallpaper.

“If location and pool are important, this is one of the more affordable options very close to Santa Fe plaza. The pool was clean and well kept. The room, however, was rather worn and did not feel clean. The fixers, tile, plumbing are ancient. I would not let my child crawl on the floor. They could not guarantee a first floor room for my child with disability. (Old two-story grandfathered-in building, no elevator.) Felt they could have made an effort given that the hotel with many rooms was near empty upon our check-in on a Sunday afternoon. This is more of a cheap motor motel with a great location. Rates over-inflated for this quality of motel and based on pool and location as far as I can tell.”

“Got charged $8 parking fee at the check out.”

Cleanliness:[5] • Staff:[5] • Location:[8]

  • The location is great.
  • Dirty room, sloppy, lazy maid service.

“When we opened the door to the room, we were shocked. It had one bed, one dresser with a TV hanging half way off the top of it, the bed cover looked like it was original to when the place opened years ago. The floor was stained, the bath is a 50's throwback with no counter space for any toiletries, dirt in the corners and the air conditioner was so loud it was hard to sleep. We were very disappointed. We drove to Taos and never saw a Garrett's Desert Inn there. The room was not vacuumed the whole week we were there and we had to go ask for soap two days in a row because they forgot to leave it. Did I say we were very disappointed? Would not stay there again.”

  • Excellent location, clean and quiet. Exceeded by expectations.
  • Paying for parking ($8)!

“I was pleasantly surprised and the hotel exceeded my expectations. I would have no hesitation in recommending the Desert Inn to anyone, its location is great, it's clean, quiet and comfortable.”

  • Location is unbeatable.
  • So dirty that the location doesn't matter.

“This place is disgustingly dirty. Smelly beds and pillows. Went to Wal-Mart to buy a couple of pillows and a sheet to cover the bed clothes. Just gross.”

  • The location is extremely convenient.
  • When an event (wedding, meeting, etc) is taking place, the parking is limited.

“Very convenient to the main plaza and shopping area, easy to get to other sites, very clean, good service. Have stayed here before, will do so again.”

Cleanliness:[5] • Staff:[6] • Location:[10]

  • Location.
  • Advertised as having a pool was closed, very disappointing. We were looking forward to a pool.

“Seemed dirty. Wondered if the sheets were clean. Pillows smelled bad. Over all it was grungy and dingy. Because we wanted a pool we felt that we were given wrong information by you and hotel, pool not open.”

Cleanliness:[7] • Staff:[8] • Location:[10]

  • Very friendly staff.
  • Rooms need to be updated and cleaner bathrooms, shower head was unusable.

“Overall a nice place. It is in a great location, rooms need a bit of updating and housekeeping should pay more attention to details, like cleaning the shower heads. Over all great price for location and size of room.”

  • Location is great. Room was comfortable and clean.
  • Had to pay $8.00 for hotel parking.

“I enjoyed the stay, room was clean and comfortable, check in was quick and friendly, location to the plaza was excellent. I did not like having to pay $8.00 to park.”

  • Great location.
  • It very much needed better sound-proofing. I woke up every time a neighbor coughed and he coughed all night.

“I would stay there again. Parking is extra.”

  • Great location.
  • Disinterested attitude and when it came to answering questions.

“Dated facility but in a great location. Appears as though it was a 1960's building that needs a bit of updating.”

Cleanliness:[8] • Staff:[9] • Location:[10]

  • Good bedroom layout and next to the best quality food restaurants in Santa Fe.
  • The quality of the bed mattress.

“Wonderful location, quiet surroundings and walking distant to the town center. Although it has the features of a motel, it is more pleasant than a conventional one. The staircase to the second floor rooms is truly uninviting and hidden behind a chip vending machine. I would advise removing such a nuisance and ugly object, it discredit the value of the hotel. I doubt anybody still consumes such unhealthy beverages I disregard this, my stay was pleasant.”

Cleanliness:[8] • Staff:[8] • Location:[9]

  • Best location for the price that we saw.
  • The bathroom sink had no cabinet, which made it a little inconvenient.

“The motel was in a great location to the plaza and all of the historical area in Santa Fe. We could easily walk to all of the restaurants. We were in an electrical storm and sat in the dark for about an hour and a half, but that was no fault of the motel. Mineral Wells, TX.”

Cleanliness:[8] • Staff:[8] • Location:[9]

  • Convenience to plaza in Santa Fe and Canyon Road.
  • Front desk is a shoulder-height wall, seems foreboding.

“Great location. Being modernized. What is it about the $8.00 parking fee for guests? Quiet area. Need higher shower heads.”

Cleanliness:[9] • Staff:[9] • Location:[10]

  • Location was perfect, could walk to all downtown area, safe, restaurants within walking distance, could leave car in lot, clean, comfortable.
  • No continental breakfast.

“The hotel was perfect in its location of the downtown Plaza area of Santa Fe (public parking is at a premium, and we weren't even there during the "tourist season", grateful we could leave the car in the lot). Nothing fancy, just a clean, comfortable room for 4 of us (2 queen beds with cotton sheets), outdoor heated pool we didn't use because air temperature was too cold. 4 great places to eat down the street. Seemed a friendly, safe place to spend our vacation.”
