Beatles Magical Mystery Tour
Dec 10, 2008 by Yvonne from Prince George, BC

Overall Rating: 10 User Rating Score: 10

  • The tour guide is fantastic.
  • Not knowing the way back to the train from the Cavern.

“I took the Magical Mystery tour in September of this year. The guide was very knowledgeable and entertaining. The quiz was great! It was great to see Penny Lane, Strawberry Field, the homes of the guys, The Cavern and Liverpool in general. Lovely city. Would like to return and spend a few days there. Would definitely recommend taking the tour. Two hours very well spent.”

Angel
Sep 28, 2008 by Chris from Paris

Overall Rating: 9 User Rating Score: 9

  • Charming, up-market, varied, safe, good nightlife, cultured, self-contained.
  • Expensive.

“I lived in or around Angel for two years and it's my favorite part of London. Modern and central, but at the same time charming and homely. Its main street, Upper Street, isn't characterized by the usual high street stores (even though you can still get your fill of Gap, Benetton, Top shop etc at a discreet shopping and cinema complex just off the main street). Instead, it's full of boutiques, underground designer workshops, theatre pubs, markets, alternative cinemas, international restaurants (French, Japanese, Turkish, Italian, Thai, Cuban, Vietnamese, Brazilian, American and of course British - all on one street) and surrounded by charming, quiet, residential areas and the peaceful Regents canal running right through it. The only reason Angel doesn't get a 10 on 10 is that as it has grown in popularity, it has become increasingly expensive to live in this part of town. Hotel prices are also dear, although this is true of pretty much all of central London.”

  • I spent 30 minutes in lousy museum.

“I'm sorry to say it but the time I spent was a waste of time. Go to Imperial War Museum if you want to learn more about the WW2. The good thing was that we were in and out in 30 minutes.”

London Canal Museum
Aug 17, 2008 by Colin from Pitstone

Overall Rating: 1 User Rating Score: 1

  • Nothing.
  • Staff attitude was poor, dull exhibits, not child friendly.

“This museum is hugely disappointing in every aspect, whether it is the presentation of the exhibits which sadly lack imagination and enthusiasm, or the unhelpful, surly, bordering on plain rude attitude of the staff on duty, any plans to visit this attraction will end up being regretted. And if you have children with you, this is not the place for you. Life is too short and London is too full of interesting and stimulating things to do to waste time here.”

Jane Austen Centre (The)

  • Everything, but the history lesson was a particular highlight for me.
  • Absolutely nothing.

“Last year I visited the Jane Austin Centre and was truly amazed with what I found. This attraction is well worth anyones' time whilst in the city. To end my visit I had tea and the most delicious home made cake in the tea shop. The staff were welcoming, the service excellent and rounded the tour off to perfection.”

Overall Rating: 2 User Rating Score: 2

  • I liked the view out of the window.
  • Everything else.

“I am an old fan of the Watershed; however, I will never set foot in there again. I went there for lunch over the weekend and had the worst kind of service possible. Not only was I over charged but when I questioned it - I was served the most foul dish possible, and really how hard is it to slap together sweet Thai Chili Chicken and curly fries? Also when on finishing my abortion on a plate. It was just grim there. The staff has all changed, and the manager was a useful as a chocolate fire guard.”

Belfast Castle
Jan 29, 2008 by C Stirman from Ballymena

Overall Rating: 7 User Rating Score: 7

  • Excellent food, atmosphere and friendly, helpful staff.
  • Multiple youths on the driveway up to the castle.

“Enjoyed a lovely meal in Belfast castle last week. Company excellent. Staff efficient and friendly. The only thing that spoiled my evening was my drive up to the castle. Arrived at the entrance to the castle grounds just after 8.30 pm. Unfortunately the drive leading up to the castle was inhabitant with approximately 40 - 50 youths, all milling around, over the road. I was glad that at short notice I had been asked to pick up two of my friends as without them I would have been in the car on my own and would not have ventured any further. I nosed my car through the crowds of youths, hoping that they would not kick my car or indeed jump onto its bonnet. Not an experience I would like to repeat. Definitely not a place to travel to in the evening especially if you are female and alone.”

Canongate Kirk
Dec 26, 2007 by Stacey H from Sterling, VA USA

Overall Rating: 10 User Rating Score: 10

  • The colors and brightness of the church. The friendly people. The architecture.
  • Some hymns hard to follow tune. Don't know if gospel of grace by faith in Christ was made clear.

“I visited in September 2007. This Kirk (church) is beautiful! I took lots of pictures here. I loved the brightness of it. The pews are a lovely blue and the carpets scarlet red, making for a gorgeous and very pleasing contrast. Nothing dark and drab about this place. It is soul feeding just to gaze upon, inside and out. There was local art hanging and flags too. A gorgeous window of colors. They have a harpsichord, huge chord organ, and loft. In the front there is an arc of rainbow tapestry covered chairs that are worth making the visit in and of themselves. Be sure to get a close-up view of those. Where the royal family sits (when they visit) near the front is marked with royal emblems on the pews. The people were very nice and friendly. Nice looking preacher =). Love their accent even if it does sound like a foreign language. I don't know if they do this every week, but they had sweets and drinks in the back after Sunday service (donations accepted). We attended a service there on Sunday while visiting Edinburgh. We also attended a concert there. Be sure to pick up a copy or so of "by lamplight" book of prose and verse (if they still have it for sale). It is a real gem and hard to find reasonably priced in us. .”

“This place is amazing and hidden amongst hundreds of shops. Crowds of shoppers walk past it every day but I wonder how many have been inside. It is amazing. Small and perfectly formed with masses of history to it. I'm not a church person but it is a very beautiful, peaceful building and a visit there is a perfect break from the hustle and bustle outside.”

I find with allot of courses when you get on to say the 12th or around the back nine you find yourself secluded, lonely If you like. With maidenhead that Isn't a problem, It's a popular club and you will be lucky to find yourself alone out there. For me that Is why It Is so great.”

“I stayed here with my partner to go to a concert at Wembley arena. I found the room and facilities fairly basic but it is cheap and is in a good location for the arena/ stadium (just around 10 minutes on bus). The staff were friendly and it was very clean and comfortable. The locals were helpful to us when asked for directions etc, despite having heard from reviews that the hotel is in a rough area.”

  • Basement location was noisy and neighborhood was a little "dodgy.¿

“We stayed in a basement room with no windows. It was clean and decent for the price, but very noisy because it was located under the pool room. Food was good and staff was friendly. The only really bad thing I can say is that it is located in a pretty bad part of town and the walk from the underground to the bus stop was a little scary. Next time, I¿d try to find something a little closer to London.”

Torrance House Golf Course

  • Can be busy at times as it is a municipal course.

“Torrance house has to be the best municipal course in south Lanark shire. Don't be put off by the course being municipal it is extremely well maintained and would make most private clubs green with envy. If you are a beginner or experienced golfer Torrance house will challenge your game. The cost of a round is a#10 weekdays and a#11:50 at the weekend. This is one of the best value golf courses available. I would highly recommend a visit to Torrance house if you are in the area.”

Beatles Magical Mystery Tour
Mar 4, 2007 by Anne from Penzance

Overall Rating: 10 User Rating Score: 10

  • Great entertainment.
  • Slightly expensive.

“My daughter and I went on the Beatles magical mystery tour in February 07 it was the funniest afternoon we had had for a long time. It was bizarre jumping off the coach with Japanese and American tourists all taking pictures of boarded up houses and small terraced properties. Stopping at penny lane was comical as we all had our pictures taken by the road sign which regularly gets stolen! The guide and driver were brilliant-such characters, if you want a good 2 hours entertainment on a psycadelic coach this is for you. We are no Beatle fans but it was a great experience. Hope no one changes the format of this tour, its great as it is.”

Beatles Magical Mystery Tour
Feb 24, 2007 by John from Germany

Overall Rating: 8 User Rating Score: 8

  • Great entertaining tour guide.
  • Unrelated tourists.

“Went to Liverpool for a short trip from London - the whole trip itself was pure entertainment. Left Easton station at 7:00 am so that I could spend a whole day in l-pool to track down beetles -related sights. The most enjoyable part was the magical mystery tour. Loved the bus - from the 70s I was told - it had a bit of a hard time (poor thing) because it was already quite old-ish - but that made the whole ride even more fun - we lost the exhaust pipe on the way - that was when we were about to see ring¿s birthplace. The driver did a great job - so did the guide Neil - very entertaining despite of probably doing that tour 24/7 - nice Liverpool-accent and good at improvising too! (See exhaust section). shame the people on the fully-booked bus were a bit un-relaxed - maybe they should have been served a kind of magical mystery drink (alcoholic) before entering to loosen up a bit. My advice is take a paparazzi zoom lens - once you get off the bus to being photographed next to strawberry fields etc you end up in a line waiting to get your spot. With everyone snapping along. Nice that they played beetles songs on the bus - all perfectly timed with the places they relate to as well -I wish I could have been driven around for a few hours more just for the fun of it and as well getting the whole Liverpool feel.”

Beatles Magical Mystery Tour
Feb 23, 2007 by Anne from Penzance

Overall Rating: 10 User Rating Score: 10

  • Great fun, informative if you are a beetles fan.
  • Waiting for late comers at the beginning of the tour.

“This was the funniest afternoon I have had in years, the coach was a classic so was the driver and the guide, it seemed bizarre taking tourists around to such back street places where the fab four lived etc. we all jump out and take photos and then jump back and on to the next stop. The beetle trivia and questions asked on the coach were such fun even though we weren¿t mad beetle fans and couldn¿t answer any of them but there were people on the coach that would answer all the questions. Our high light was also seeing Freddie mercury's old flat in penny lane! It is a tour that we can highly recommend if you are a beetles fan but if you are not you will still enjoy it but tongue in cheek. Money well spent.”

Beatles Magical Mystery Tour

  • Its the funniest afternoon I've ever had.
  • See the review.

“The magical mystery tour is amazing. we visited many Beatles sights including the homes of John & Paul and the bus stop where George met Paul, and as Eddie our guide kept saying the rest is history a shame that Eddies patter is so cheesy and stale and it sounds like he reading it (very badly) from a script. He is a real Beatles fan, who has a wealth of knowledge but his delivery needs work. The wonky poor Beatles recordings that are played over the bus annoy system add charm and the whole experience is very very funny. I would recommend the magical mystery tour for all the wrong reasons a must do when visiting Liverpool ”

Bristol Balloon Fiesta
Aug 15, 2006 by Rachel from Bristol

Overall Rating: 1 User Rating Score: 1

  • The Spitfire display and one large an impressive old-fashioned carousel.
  • They keep it quiet that there's not much chance of seeing any balloons.

“Dreadful. I went to the 2006 Balloon Fiesta on Saturday the 12th of August and it was awful. It is essentially a huge, cheap and nasty funfair with huge numbers of stands selling overpriced food and drink. If you went there for a family day out it could cost you an absolute fortune. They didn't have any balloons take off, because it was too windy apparently, (not that we could feel that on the ground, but I bow to their greater knowledge of that). However, the other entertainments were mostly awful, and unless you are willing to pitch a camp right next to the arena fence, you can't hear any of the announcements, so you have no idea what's going on. Also, (although we walked there) we noticed traffic was awful, and there were far too few loss. Go to the kite festival instead - no pony wind excuses there!”

York Dungeons
May 29, 2006 by James from Frimley

Overall Rating: 5 User Rating Score: 5

  • Staff work really hard, great for children.
  • Does not scare adults, effects very basic no high-tec stuff here.

“You are guided through a series of set scenes by actors these are a plague surgery, a moorland graveyard, a mirror maze, a meeting with a barbarian king, a sinners court, a torture chamber and dick turpins execution. The actors work really hard and are dressed in realistic costumes and most children would really enjoy it, as it is designed for families the actors stop short of really scaring you. A great one for children and families but one to miss for adults or those with either very young or sensitive children. Once you start you follow a set route with a tour group, and at the very you exit via the scariest place of all. The gift shop.”
