Stockport Air Raid Shelters

  • Size of the place, history and stories.
  • Access limited, although extended tours available if booked.

“A very interesting and pleasurable experience, even for my 2 year old, informative guide tells of how and why tunnels were originally formed, then expanded for Air Raid use.

The tunnels still contain original bunks, toilets and hospital, with many more interesting artifacts from the war period to see.

Also the tunnels under the town centre are just the tip of the iceberg, with more at Brink sway near Pyramid and Dodge Hill, near the chapel. There are one or two other sites not really mentioned as well. Unfortunately these are not open to the public with no planned future opening, but are quite visible from main roads and you will now know what those mysterious bricked up archways are hiding!

Would definitely recommend if you have an hour or so to spare.”
